The Tour of Flanders is the most fascinating spring cycling race of UCI Pro Tour. The route goes among the Flemish countryside, faces the cobbled climbs and thrills the millions of spectators along the route. Every year, this race becomes something more special. The race starts in Bruges, and ends in Meerbeke, south-west of Brussels. The cyclists have to climb the legendary ascents of Oude Kwaremont, of Koppenberg, of Muur-Kapelmuur and Bosberg, the last "mountain", just a few kilometers from the finish. In 2007, Alessandro Ballan won on the Belgian Leif Hoste, but, in 2008, the victory goes to the Belgian Stijn Devolder. Also this year, the race will be a lovely battle among the best classic cyclists from the UCI ProTour, also Fabian Cancellara of the Saxo Bank team, and Tom Boonen of Quick Step team, who won the Tour of Flanders in the years 2005 and 2006, will participate. The 2009 route will be slightly modified by race organizers. They have take off a slope and add seven kilometers of paved roads. The last stage of the race is 260 km, 28 cobbled km and 16 of climbs. Thanks to the creation of the Ronde van Vlaanderen Enthusiasts, the Saturday before the race, anyone can now emulate his hero and enjoy a weekend of Cycling. 1 Devolder Stijn QST 6u01'04" 2 Haussler Heinrich CTT 3 Gilbert Philippe SIL 4 Maaskant Martijn GRM 5 Pozzato Filippo KAT 6 Breschel Matti SAX 7 Burghardt Marcus THR 8 Leukemans Björn VAC 9 Elmiger Martin ALM 10 De Waele Bert LAN Lisa Guerrini |
