On April 19, starts the Amstel Gold Race 2009, the most important cycling event in the Netherlands, even more of the Tour of Holland. The Amstel Gold Race is run since 1966 and awards points in the UCI ProTour circuit. Although the Netherlands is known as a flat land, the Amstel Gold Race ends at the top of the Cauberg Hill, near Maastricht, after 250 km of climbs and descents, which strain the runners legs. Last year's victory went to Damiano Cunego (Lampre), at his first participation, wisely led by Guido Bontempi. The record of victories owns to the Dutch Jan Raas, with 5 victories, including four consecutive. Also the last winner of the Tirreno-Adriatico, Michele Scarponi, Serramenti PVC Diquigiovanni, will participate with Davide Rebellin, Alessandro Bertolini, Manuel Bellet, Luca Celli, Francesco De Bonis, Francesco Gianni and Mate Mardones Luis Angel.
