Bicycle's history

archetipo di bicicletta storia della biciToday among the more diffused means of transport all over the world and with many uses, from a sport tool to the simple city use, the bicycle boasts a particularly ancient history. In the first times luxury mean of transport of few important people, it will celebrate in 2018 the second century from its "official" invention.
It was in fact 1818 when the German baron Karl Christian Ludwig Drais von Sauerbronn patented the Draisina, first bicycle in wood and iron, without brakes neither pedals.

Called "velocipede" until almost 1860, the bicycle was however already "realized" by the genius of Leonardo da Vinci, and subsequently from the Count Mede de Sivrac that in 1971 developed a vehicle twos wheels without steering gear calling it "celerifero".
With the addition of the steering gear, the Laufmachine (or "race-car") built by German baron von Drais was subsequently considered the first official bicycle of the history and called "velocipede".

In use already from 1817, the Draisina was officially "inaugurated" by its same inventor von Drais in a documented trip with start from Mannheim on 12th June 1817 along 13 kilometres crossed in less than an hour. Push without the use of pedals - that they will be added only 50 years later - initially the bicycle not spread thickly because of the prohibition to cross the roadways reserved to the carriages, of the precarious equilibrium and of the development of the railroad.

With the addition of the pedals, it had a new development around 1860 in Paris, where to the iron wheels the first tarpaulins were added too. Subsequently they brought important innovations other important people as Eugene Meyer (inventor in the 1869 of the wheels with rays), John Kemp Starley and John Boyd Dunlop, what in 1888 optimized the invention of the pneumatic tarpaulin. More recently, the evolution of the bicycle has known new uses and materials up to the use of the fibres of carbon.
