Flèche Wallone 2009 |
April 22ndBelgium The Flèche Wallonne is a professional classical one day race, held on April, usually on Wednesdays, between the dates of the Amstel Gold Race and the Liege-Bastogne-Liege, in Belgium, in the French-speaking region of Wallonia. The route usually goes from Charleroi, through the Ardennes, then on the Wall of Huy, a hard climb of 1.2 km, with a gradient up to 22% in the most difficult curves, and finishes in the town of Huy. The Flèche Wallonne and the Liege-Bastogne-Liege are known as the "Ardennes Week", because they follow each other and are organized by Amaury Sport Organization. Only six cyclists have achieved the "Ardennes double" by winning both races in the same year: Ferdi Kübler twice (in 1951 and 1952), Stan Ockers (1955), Eddy Merckx (1972), Moreno Argentin (1991) Davide Rebellin ( 2004) and Alejandro Valverde (2006). 73rd edition is on April 22 and 25 teams are allowed:
